CEWE awarded as a digitally pioneering medium-sized company

CEWE was presented with the "Digital Champions Award" at a ceremony in Berlin, honouring the successful growth from being a traditional analogue photographic laboratory to become a digitalised photofinisher. The magazine WirtschaftsWoche and German Telekom initiated the award to reward pioneering digital products.

Together with the WirtschaftsWoche magazine, Deutsche Telekom presented the
"Digital Champions Awards" for the first time on 16 June 2016 in Berlin. The award was presented to five medium-sized companies, including CEWE. The Oldenburg-based company was presented with the award in the "Digital Transformation Medium-sized Companies" sub-category. According to the judging panel, CEWE made the jump in an exemplary manner from being an analogue film developer to becoming Europe's market leader in digital photofinishing. Unlike many other competitors, CEWE set out on this new course back in the 1990s, transformed its entire business model and since then has been systematically digitalising its products, services and processes. "At CEWE we are thrilled about this award, which recognises our efforts in the digitalisation of our business models. It is in the interests of all our employees that we retain and even extend our position as Europe's leading photofinisher. The award is not just a reward for our efforts, but also represents the motivation to remain on the ball and drive forward new innovations," explains Dr. Ralf Wieting, Application Engineering and Online Operations Section Manager.

Entrepreneurial courage and optimism

German medium-sized companies offer a number of excellent examples of digital transformation, explained Hagen Rickmann, Managing Director, Business Customers Telekom Germany, in front of many guests from the worlds of business, science and politics at the award ceremony. According to Hagen Rickmann, all winners stood out on account of their entrepreneurial courage and optimism and the conviction that digital transformation represents a real opportunity rather than a threat. "The prizewinners are companies who have already taken advantage of the opportunities of digitalisation. They are the leading figures in digital development and offer guidance to other mid-sized companies," Miriam Meckel, WirtschaftsWoche Chief Editor, went on to say.

Background

Deutsche Telekom initiated the "Digital Champions Award" jointly with the WirtschaftsWoche magazine to award pioneering digital projects. The submitted projects were rated by a high-calibre judging panel from the worlds of business, science, politics and the media. Digitalisation goes hand in hand with a unique innovation phase that revolutionises all areas. The "Digital Transformation Award" is intended to make an important contribution to this: strengthen the awareness of the crucial future-centric importance of digitalisation, provide innovative stimulus and highlight approaches for the successful design of digital change.
